♣ The picture is quoted to present problems in rotational molding. We encountered similar problem at our very beginning stage of molding and tooling for rotational moulding, but it is not a problem to us any longer. ♣

Case study on what is a good rotatinal mould and how to rotomold a part properly,

Though rotational molding has many advantages in tolerating multi-parting lines, low tooling cost, adjustable wall thickness, and so on, there are some features to be avoided at the beginning of designing model or tooling for rotational molding. 

If to look at the quoted picture, it has following problems, 

1st, the space left between handle and side wall of lid is too much less to allow hand to move in and out easily;

2nd, there is apparent molding defects along the thin solid edge next to the handle, 

3rd, the top deck of lid warps and distorts. 

It is necessary to avoid the 1st problem when to design the model at beginning, which requires experience in industrial design work. It is possible for us to make modification to increase space for hand, but it is going to add much extra cost and takes fives days of tooling operation. 

Regarding the 2nd problem, there are a few solutions, 

* use special material to form the solid edge, but the special material has to be exported, which costs much and takes ages. 

* increase the thickness of the solid edge. Upon experience of most rotomolders, the solid edge has to be no less than 8mm in width and 10mm in depth. But we are capable to achieve 5mm in width and 15mm in depth. To do that, we have special design in both rotomould and rotational molding. 

For the 3rd problem, it is more related to molding procedure, especially how to control heat distribution. And we are pround to say, we can do very well in that.
